Ed Richards WAMS Tutorials
Hello
I created this web page to assist anyone who is using the lighting and sound system at Williamsport Area Middle School in Williamsport, PA. I recently retired and currently reside in sunny Port Saint Lucie, Florida. You are more than welcome to contact me by email if you have any questions. I am also available to do virtual assistance once you have contacted me.
I am a retired instrumental music educator having spent 30 years in the public schools. As a woodwind player I also performed professionally in a variety of different venues. Being a musician, I was always involved in sound reinforcement as it directly affected performances. I have spent 17 years doing sets, lighting and sound for school performances and 9 years in community theater doing the same.
Roland M480
The sound system at WAMS is based around the Roland M480 Digital Mixer which has 40 inputs and 24 outputs. It is a completely digital setup using two Roland M4000 Merge Units as well as a S4000 Digital Snake.
MagicQ PC
The stage lighting is controlled by a touch screen computer utilizing Chamsys MagicQ PC software and a Chamsys 2 Universe USB DMX output device.
CSC Show Control Software
We use a tower computer and CSC Show Control Software to play back audio tracks and to syncronize the lighting computer and power point computer for a seamless entertainment presentation. See the Show Control page of this website for instruction on how to use the software.
Do Not Update Software !!
The software being used on all of the computers running sound and lighting programs is an older version of windows. Do not update this operating system !! It is only being used in a local network capacity and does not access the internet. Updating the operating system would require an update to all of the programs being used as well as purchasing new hardware which would be compatible with the update. The cost of this update would be in excess of $15,000.00, possibly more. Everything runs fine the way it is designed so leave it alone.
