Several of you have expressed an interest in visiting Key West, Florida so I decided to put together this web site with pertinent information. The nicest weather, and of course peak tourist season, is October through March. For that reason lodging will be the most expensive at that time of year. Key West has that Old Florida architecture and mature tropical fauna which makes it so attractive to many visitors in addition to the tropical climate. You will find both the traditional and the quirky here and the night life is a definite draw for the younger crowd.
Not my preferred method but we can drive to Key West. The trip takes about 6 hours without stops. In the past people would stop at the various keys along the route but after talking with some locals, they said that a lot of the old Florida attractiveness along the route has been lost to successive hurricanes. Now it is mostly modern construction.
Celebrity Cruises offers 4 night sailings out of Fort Lauderdale aboard Celebrity Silhouette with stops in Key West and the Bahamas. Typically you are in Key West for one day from 7:00 am till 5:00 pm. Balcony cabin averages about $600 per passenger. We found this cruise to be very low key with lots of food and drink. Very few families with children as they cater to the older crowd.
Drive 2.5 hours to Fort Meyers Beach on the west coast. Then sit back and relax as the Key West Express ferry makes the 3.5 hour trip to Key West. Bar and bar food available onboard. Round trip ticket is $175 per person. If you are planning on staying in Key West for a few days, this is a good option.
